Rancho Palos Verdes
essentially consists of the remaining area of the Peninsula West of San Pedro, excluding the above three cities and the Westfield and Academy Hills areas. The city was formed in 1973 in an effort to control coastline development and  protect the 7.5  miles of coastline along Palos Verdes Drives South and West  The city has grown to include the Eastfield area West of San Pedro which was annexed on January 5, 1983. Rancho Palos Verdes has many areas of identifiable communities which are unique in nature.

Rancho Palos Verdes - The East Side
The Palos Verdes Drive East Area  runs along Palos Verdes Drive East from Conestoga Drive (near Palos Verdes Drive North)  to just North of  Marymount College. This area borders the city of Rolling Hills on the West and San Pedro/Eastview on the East.. Some subareas have private roads (e.g. La Vista Verde and Rockinghorse Road). Communities include Crestmount, Rockinghorse, and Sunnyside Ridge. This region is a mixture of horse properties and developed subareas.

The area also includes a unique community known as 'Miraleste'. Miraleste architecture is under control of the Palos Verdes Homes Association and Art Jury and has 344 home sites that adhere to the architectural restrictions of the Palos Verdes Homes Association. Miraleste Plaza has a small commercial development. Miraleste Intermediate school is located on a picturesque 33 acre campus in the Miraleste area. This area was originally intended to be the East foothold for the Palos Verdes Project that intended to extend from the West side to the East side of the Peninsula. The street numbers of homes in Miraleste originate from the Palos Verdes Estates grid.

Mira Catalina includes the regions along and off of Palos Verdes Drive East from the Marymount College area to Palos Verdes Drive South. These are primarily subdivision properties and includes the S & S gated  subdivision (Rancho Palos Verdes Estates) at the upper end of Crest Road, and the communities of Mediterrania and Mira Catalina. The Mira Catalina elementary school site is located in the southern area of Mira Catalina. The large white globes at the top of Crest Road house radar antennae.

These areas on the East side of the Peninsula enjoy spectacular view of the City lights, Harbor and Catalina.
